Producer Profile

Elk Cove

Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA

Gaston, Oregon, USA Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Established in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell on a secluded property in North Willamette Valley, they only produce Pinot - Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. The first vineyards were planted on steep south facing slopes of the Chehelam Mountains to Willakenzie silty loam and Laurelwood red-shot volcanic soils. The 600 acre, sustainably farmed estate is divided into four major parcels: La Boheme, Roosevelt, Mount Richmond and Five Mountain Vineyard. In 1995 Adam Godlee Campbell joined forces with his parents to continue producing Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Growing up among the vines on the Elk Cove Estate has instilled a tremendous respect for the soil in which the grapes were grown, therefore his role as winemaker is one of stewardship over intervention. He accomplishes this through proper site selection, meticulous vine management and low yields. Adam hand selects only the finest French oak barrels - three year old, air dried Burgundian coopered barrels, with medium toast and tight grain. The Pinot Noirs are racked by gravity from the fermentors to French oak barrels in the cellar.
